Ray Manzarek, although I've long associated the line with Jim Morrison, if not The Doors. One of my favorite bands :)
The line, however, was inspired by a very old book, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. I've written about it (the line) in a fictional work, a stillborn (and incomplete) novel gathering dust and grime in my room ha ha ha ;P
